How to make an installation .ISO file or other bootable media for Windows 10

In this tutorial, we will use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to make an installation media of Windows 10. We also introduce a free tool called Rufus that creates bootable media from any .ISO file.

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 by clicking the Download tool now button.
  2. Run the Media Creation Tool.exe file and click the Accept button.
  3. Select the Create installation media option and click Next twice.
  4. Choose whether you want to make a bootable USB flash drive (it should be at least 8 GB and any data on it will be deleted) or an ISO file which you can then make into a DVD drive. Click Next.
  5. Choose the desired USB drive or where to save the .ISO file and click Save.
  6. This will probably take a long time, and it will need Internet connection.
  7. When it's done, click Finish or the Open DVD Burner link if you wish to burn your .ISO file to a DVD disc.
  8. Select your DVD drive from the Disc Burner drop-down menu. Make sure you have a disc in the drive.
  9. Enable the Verify disc after burning if you wish to verify that the bootable media was written successfully on the disc.
  10. Click the Burn button.
  11. Download the Rufus tool from this website: https://rufus.akeo.ie/
  12. Run the Rufus tool and select your destination DVD or USB drive from the Device drop-down. Make sure your desired bootable USB drive is connected to your computer before opening Rufus.
  13. Change the FreeDOS option from the drop-down to ISO Image.
  14. Click the icon next to the ISO Image drop-down and select your desired ISO image that you want on your desired drive. Click Open.
  15. Click the Start button to start making the bootable media.
